Dr. Blackburn Claim Erroneous

Post by Karen on Thu 30 May 2013 - 14:46

Dr. Blackburn,

It appears that the telegram making this individual to be Dr. Tumblety was erroneous. Tumblety has enough to answer for without being charged with the diabolical yellow fever plot. It seems that this Dr. Blackburn is a resident of Montreal, who went to Bermuda to attend to the Yellow fever patients. While there he is charged with entering into a plot to buy up all the infected clothing, and send it in bales to New York, Philadelphia and other Northern cities. In this he was supported by confederate funds. He has been arrested and brought to Toronto to be tried on a charge of breach of the Neutrality laws. If guilty, we hope no technical objection will intervene to prevent so vile a wretch from obtaining his desserts. We hope for the sake of humanity that the story of the plot may be false, in the meanwhile there appears to be considerable circumstantial evidence of its existence.
