Which Druitt Is Which?

Post by Karen on Sun 28 Feb 2010 - 4:42

Having researched the Druitt family extensively in the 1881 Census, I have not been successful in finding a Montague John Druitt who was an assistant schoolmaster, doctor and solicitor. I did, however, find three different Druitt's who, when combined, all make one Druitt, who isn't even named Montague!!!!

Here are the three non-runners for Ripper:

Note To Self: If ever you wish to frame a particular person for murder, make sure that you all choose the same person and stick with that person.

In Melville McNaghten's Memoranda, he stated that Druitt lived with his family, but records show that he lived alone at 9 Eliot Place. He stated that Druitt had committed suicide around the 10th of November, three weeks before it actually occurred. He stated that Druitt was about 41 at the time of his death, overestimating by ten years. Finally, he mentions Druitt as being a doctor, when he was a barrister and schoolmaster.

Montague Druk was a schoolmaster and only a schoolmaster - he was not a doctor or a barrister (those were two other men completely). The 41 year old barrister was named Robert Druitt, Jr. - and interestingly enough, his father was a doctor/surgeon. See below:
